What are VNs and ADVs?

Written by Olivia S.

Usually when I tell people I am working on producing my own independent VN or ADV, I am often asked "what in the heck does that mean?" So I've decided to do a blog about it. This blog is going to be more informative than fun, so please bear with me!
VNs and ADVs are one of my passions, so I'm going to do my best to explain this in the most efficient way as possible.

Many anime and manga have been inspired by or are adaptations of ADVs or VNs, a very popular form of storytelling created by the Japanese.

No.6: A Review

No.6: A Review
Written by Olivia S.

If I had to choose a favorite anime for 2011, it would most probably be a tie between Deadman Wonderland, and No.6. Both anime were intelligent, well-paced, and had one unfortunate thing in common: the endings were… a little questionable. While Deadman Wonderland’s ending was nonsensical and ended without tying anything up, No.6 did end in a manner that successfully tied (mostly) everything up. In deciding which one I should review, I settled on No.6 because there would be more to actually analyze, what with a complete story, an (unsatisfying) ending, as

Angel Beats! A Review

on Sun, 01/08/2012 - 17:51

So I thought it was about time I did another anime review, since my last few have been mostly educational goodies about the otaku world.

It was a lot harder to choose an anime than I thought. I watch so many a year that when I try to pare it down to just a few...it's hard. So I decided to go with the one that impacted me the most, and hit me on a more personal level.

Most of what we see of anime on North American television is all cut from the same mold. Bleach, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Z is the brunt of what we've seen over the years. What do all these series have in common? They were all originally run in the same weekly manga publication: Shonen Jump.

Hellboy: Manga vs. Comics

on Tue, 12/06/2011 - 09:54

So, I had decided some time ago that my newest blog would be about the one and only Hellboy by Mike Mignola, but there was a slight problem with that. It's been done. And done. And done. There really would be no absolute point in reviewing a classic like Hellboy from a traditional standpoint at this point in time, as everyone knows about it almost explicitly in the comic world.

So this is what I have decided with that in consideration; I am going to review Hellboy through the eyes of an experienced anime and manga enthusiast, comparing the differences between classic

Batwoman: Elegy

Batwoman: Elegy is a story that takes place not long after the one-year absence of three incredibly iconic heroes: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. It follows Kate Kane and her efforts to crush the cult that nearly ruined her and everything she knew. Batwoman is on the rise once again, after barely escaping her scrape with death, her supposed fall orchestrated by the cult of the “Religion of Crime.”

With outstanding art and stylized, creative panelling, Batwoman: Elegy is definitely worth the read.

Ao no Exorcist Review
(As well as an introduction to Anime and Manga for the less informed!
)

What better way to open up my blog than to review the hottest (and most widely debated) anime series' of the year featuring Satan's charismatic twin children? It might sound crazy, but give this a read and decide for yourself.

In a time where anime is becoming more commonplace and less fringe, for the first time, Japan has been producing anime and manga with the idea of globalization in mind.
