The New 52 Review Week 2

on Sat, 09/10/2011 - 11:27

Action Comics #1

Or as I like to call it: Superman Returns!

Now, there’s a reason why Hollywood addresses Superman’s origin in every movie they make about him. It’s because for decades, it’s been the most interesting Superman story. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some really good Superman books over the years and some extremely talented writers and artists have hit a few home runs. But it always seems that these are temporary flashes and then Superman stories go back to being boring and predictable.

Captain America Movie/Comic Review

on Thu, 09/08/2011 - 20:19

Captain America was one of the first modern comic book series I picked up, and needless to say he is one of my favourite characters. Many things have drawn me to Steve Rogers’ character and to the Captain America storyline, but my favourite thing about him is the low key storylines he tends to have. Because of Cap’s lower level power set, putting him up against an incredibly powerful villain, like Galactus or the Sentry would be impossible. The more powerful the character, the more powerful the villains, meaning that the stakes are set very high right from the get go.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 16:39

The hype around Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been massive, but not having played the predecessor I didn’t know what to expect. We all know how many bad RPGs and shooters are out there, and I was hoping that this wasn’t going to be a bad game and ruin those genres even more. It could have been just another horrible game, but thankfully it wasn’t.

The presentation is amazing. Nearly right off the bat you’re in a real combat scenario, not just training. It’s also great fun to find the weapons and their mods. I think the most fun part of the whole game is the augmentations.

Flashpoint Aftermath & the New 52!

on Sun, 09/04/2011 - 13:11

There have been more than a few “Event” stories in the DCU over the past 25 years. Some have been great, and some… well, not so much. I’m happy to say that ‘Flashpoint’ is not among the latter.

This past week saw the release of ‘Flashpoint’ #5 and ‘Justice League’ #1 and because of the fact that one leads into the other, this will be a two-part review. Let me begin with ‘Flashpoint’ as a whole. There will be spoilers from here on, so if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t read any of this yet, AVERT YOUR EYES!!!

In the past, DC has used the word “crisis” in the titles of just
