on Wed, 03/21/2012 - 11:37

Hello to all the fans out there!

Wanting to showcase the artwork we here at UysFaber do beyond comic art, I thought that I would share a process painting that I recently worked on. Over the next few weeks, I will reveal the work in progress, to show my painting style and how I create my work. I hope you enjoy as you watch this abstract come to life:

Join us soon as the painting continues!

Smiley Spot: Watchmen and the Need For More

on Wed, 03/14/2012 - 12:16

Continuing the biggest comic book industry story of the year, the Watchmen prequels, I wanted to give some of my thoughts on the matter. We at the Uys Blogs reported the news the day these controversial books were announced and we’ve heard some great commentary about it by esteemed colleague and book-mate Aaron Feldman (Buy HardWear #2 at Paradise comics today! Product placed!). While I gave an initial editorial to the news, I wanted to expand my thoughts on the Before Watchmen news and why I not only think the books are a good idea, but are in retrospect essential.

Smiley Spot: Cyborg in the Justice League

on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 12:06

The DC Comics character Cyborg is having a good year. The character, originally associated with the 1980s New Teen Titans, was brought up to the Justice League level during the DC New 52 initiative. Additionally, the character had a staring role in the animated feature, Justice League: Doom out last week. Replacing Martian Manhunter, Cyborg was instrumental in the new origin of the Justice League story, with the company hoping to solidify his standing as a major league character.

Smiley Spot: Review of Justice League: Doom

Justice League: Doom

Justice League: Doom is the latest animated film from DC Comics, and features the last penned story by the late Dwayne McDuffie. As the entire industry acknowledges, McDuffie was a leading voice in comics and animation, pioneering important characters of diverse backgrounds like Static at Milestone Comics. Among his many accomplishments was being story editor on the Justice League cartoon that is still a fan favorite today.

Smiley Spot: Twelve Angry Men Comic

on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 20:47

During our last UysFaber podcast on crime stories, I said that my favourite was Twelve Angry Men. Not really a crime story I know, for it is better known as a court drama. Still, the legendary play-turned-movie is my favourite crime story.

For a quick recap, the story takes place entirely in a jury room. You never learn the names of the twelve men and you follow them through all of their discussions on the case. While originally eleven of them wish to convict the young defendant, one votes not guilty, and uses every form of manipulation and ruling to convince the other eleven to join him.

Smiley Spot: Lessons from Comic School

on Wed, 02/15/2012 - 11:55

Last week I was given a portfolio review at the Kubert School in New Jersey. For those not in the know, Kubert School is the only official school teaching comic book art and has produced many of the industry's top talents. The facility is the dream I had as a kid about what school should look like.

Smiley Spot: Before Watchmen Announced

on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 10:30

Balls man, Balls.

Today on the DC Comics blog, they announced several prequel comics featuring the characters and concepts from Watchmen. For the first time since the story created by legends Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the Watchmen characters will be receiving new stories from industry veterans. This is gonna cause a storm for sure. The rumors have been around for years, and now Dan Didio and Jim Lee are going through with it: the first attempt to re-enter the groundbreaking work, with an endorsement from Dave Gibbons himself.

Before we go further, we have to collectively say it again:
